Tough Day at the Office

Phew. There are tough days and there are TOUGH days. And today was TOUGH. TOUGH TOUGH TOUGH!!!

The analysis that I am doing and the report that I am creating has caused enough problems in itself. But I find it hard to believe that in itself it was enough to drive me to the utter frustration that I was feeling and to open up the emotions that were opened.

The only conclusion I am left with is that when the news was broken to me about my job moving location and I dealt with it so well. So well, that many colleagues and managers have commented on how I have dealt with it. And I seemed to leap through the change curve from shock to acceptance - I think I am now revisiting the bits I have missed and right now am suffering from the depression stage.

So there is really nothing left to do but dust myself off and go back tomorrow and tackle it head on. Safe in the knowledge that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Introducing The Change Curve

Change can be uncomfortable for all of us. It’s perfectly normal to experience a variety of feelings even if you’re the one driving the change, or supporting the change.

The change curve is a model that many people identify with, some if not all of the stages. Even those committed to change, as a steady state, sometimes feel momentary DENIAL.

There are lots of variations of the Change Curve, the most notable is the Kubler Ross Curve that is specifically used for grief.

I used to have a great link for the Kubler Ross curve, but it seems its been removed from the Web. So I am going to come up with my own version that takes you through a range of emotions which are more suited to general changes.

Change

Life has settled down a bit for me now and I'm going through a series of actions in setting up my business. My emotions are much calmer and I feel I have less to report about me.

One of my intentions of this blog was to set up a resource that people could use and hopefully find some inspiration, so I will start to cover a series of topics that I hope you will find useful.

The first of those will be "Change". I've already touched on Change, when I first included the Kubler Ross Change Curve.  This post gets more hits from google then any other post on my blog so change must be interesting to people.

By Definition:

"CHANGE verb ( BECOME DIFFERENT ) : to make or become different, or to exchange one thing for another thing, especially of a similar type"

But what does change mean to us?

The Kubler Ross Change Curve

Many of you will have seen the Kubler Ross Change Curve. Here is a simplified version and another link to some pretty good descriptions.
