Still not moving

Some weeks, well months ago, I was told my job was moving to a location with an hour and a half commute each way. You may recall I wasn't exactly happy about it at the time. More hours travelling would leave less time for Green shoots. A project I'd started to build my own part time life coaching business, - I hit the change curve full on.

We're four months on and I've still not changed location. In some respects it puts me a little bit in limbo. Not quite knowing where I'm going to be makes it a little difficult to putting any coaching roots down.

But I'm pressing on. I'm starting to get business cards into other businesses and today I'm going to design some fliers.

I've been approached by someone to get involved in some event organisation. We're putting together a fashion gig so I'm hoping to meet lots of new ladies and it might even bring in a little cash.

Fingers crossed.

In need of a name

I need a name for my business. In a way I'm frustrated about it. I loved the concept of Green Shoots - it summed up everything -

the need for new growth, change, hope - everything you could want from a life coach.

BUT - its already in use. I knew that when I decided to use it. Its a life coaching company in York. In my heart I'd decided it didn't matter. I'd call myself Green shoots life coaching or Life Coaching at Green Shoots. But now my head has taken control. Reality has come into play. If I'm Green Shoots, then anyone looking for my coaching service could get confused with the existing Green Shoots. That won't help me. I'd set out to get clarity and a uniqueness about my business. I can't do that if there are two of us.

So here I am - my blog Green Shoots won't change. But my website and business when I set them up will be called something different. And perhaps that's right. It will represent a new chapter in my life and Green Shoots (blog) is a stepping stone. So, new chapter, new name. But what?

So, get your thinking caps on people. And even if you don't normally comment, please please please take the time to suggest a name to me. But remember, it needs to reflect positive things, goals, hope, new beginnings, health, life, new steps etc etc etc.

I look forward to reading all your suggestions.

Careers Advice Service - Episode II

It hardly seems any time at all since I last spoke to the Career's Advice Service but its been over a month and they rang me today to see how I am getting on.

Its good, I can actually say I've made some progress. The very fact that I knew they would be ringing me today has spurred me on to make a decision.

The dilemma (to save you re-reading old blog pages) was whether or not I wanted to train as a counsellor or a coach. Although similar in terms of personal skills, they are very different approaches and I need to train differently. Training of course means out-laying money and time. Both of which I have very little spare!!!!

So its official. I am going to be a life-coach.

Now that is a goal! I guess I need to give it a deadline. I thought 2 years. End of March 2012. Spring. That fit with green-shoots.

Perhaps I'm being to easy on myself. Maybe too hard. I guess that's something i'll share with you when I know myself.

In the immediate future, I need to find out more about the training side. There are so many life coaching courses out there and I have so many questions about them.

How do I know if they are any good?
How do I know if they will be recognised qualifications?

I've agreed a goal with the Career's Advice Service of reviewing this in 4 weeks - I'd better crack on.
